Who does your taxes, and would you consider getting them done by a local business (accountant)?

We have an accountant that pretty much specializes in our type of business. If there were one closer than 45 miles and was recommended by someone I trust, I would probably try them out.

I've been doing taxes professionally and semi-professionally for over 40 years. I use Tax Cut for my own return and the few returns that I do for others. I don't do enough to warrant the purchase of professional grade software though I do buy several copies a year to stay legal on the licensing. I use Tax Cut as it allows me to easily override the program's calculations and make direct entries on the forms when needed.

  7. Depends upon how much accounting work is involved and how complicated is the tax return, and your knowledge on this subject.
If it is a 1040 EZ, you can easily do a paper return without even using a software or use a software.
Many times it is better to use a tax professional to do your return.

If you are getting an accountant why would you use someone who isn't local? Whether you need an accountant depends on the complexity of your return.
